"Suddenly Sable "
AKA 'Sable'
Foaled 2001
34" Silver Black
Miniature Mare
Sable is a very pretty mare who has a sketchy past. When she first came here, it took 45 minutes to get her on the trailer. It took another two hours in the dark, to get her into the field. She was spooked by everything and had a tendancy to kick at you double barrelled, if she felt threatened or cornered. She also would rear and fight if she was scared to go forward. She had obvious signs of abuse from her first home as she was very nervous around people and head shy. She was also grossly overweight with a potbelly and had just overcome a massive tapeworm infection along with just being weaned from her second foal. Her tail had been cut very short with long hairs hanging here and there, as well as her bridle path and part of her forelock.
With gentle handling, continual praise and diligent feeding, trimming and grooming, Sable has come around. She has bonded to me more than our previous mare, Dally ever had, and is genuinely a big suck that loves being petted and getting scritches. She usually is not far behind me, wiggling her lips on my coat or jeans, when I am picking out her field.
Sable now picks up all four hooves, stands tied, bathes, lets kids ride around on her back, longes, long reins and jumps small fences. She loves being groomed and going for walks too. In July of 2007, Sable even attended a summer kids camp at a local riding stable.
She still needs a little work with trailering, though she now has plenty of it with being sent to stud. She also hates any kind of needle, but she is a fast learner and always eager to please.
Sable has excellent conformation, sound hard hooves, good straight legs and her bite is correct. She has had 2 previous foals sired by a silver black like she is. She had a filly in 2005 and a colt in 2006. Both were also silver black.
